   Recommendations for Writing

  • Read the instructions carefully and underline   the key words.

  • Make sure you understand what you are asked   to write (a letter, an

    article, a report, a speech…)

  • List your arguments (for / against, advantages / disadvantages.)

  • Justify your ideas using examples, figures or statistics if possible.

  • Use the appropriate style. (formal / informal)

  • Do not include any new arguments in the conclusion.

  • Use the linking words / phrases you have been taught.

  • The free writing will be marked according to a detailed grid which

    includes:

  • Keeping to the topic; who is writing to whom,  for what purpose, how

    relevant your ideas are.


  • The appropriate use of vocabulary.

  • The correctness of grammar .

  • The use of correct spelling, punctuation & capitalization.

  • The correct use of linkers and the logical sequencing of ideas.

  • The layout (especially if you are writing a formal letter).

Recommendations  for  Reading Comprehension :

  • Read the questions carefully before reading the text ,this will help you

    understand the topic of the text.

  • Refer to the paragraph mentioned in  front of the question ,which will

    guide you to the correct answer.

  • To complete a paragraph summarizing the text , concentrate on the main

    ideas of the text and use words from the text.

  • When you are asked to paraphrase , rely on your own words to explain the

    idea .

  • When asked to pick up an approximate synonym, replace the word you

    found with the suggested meaning to be sure of it.

Recommendations for Language:

  • Concentrate on the structures of the sentences, this will help you choose

    the correct option . (parallelism   ,comparison ,model ,……………..)

  • When asked to put the words in their right tense or form, remember that

    tense means present , past, future, conditional whereas form can be

    related to adjective, adverb, noun…… or even passive versus active forms

  • Read the paragraph twice and thrice to revise your choices and to get

    helped with the mean idea of the paragraph.

  • Don’t spend too much time on easy tasks.

  • Remember that using a certain adverb is related to the context of the

    paragraph and the idea you want to express: contrast , addition

    ,cause/result…….)
